COVID-19 Cases at MGA

Have Symptoms or been exposed?

To keep our community informed about the presence of COVID-19 on MGA campuses, the University will report the number of self-reported positive COVID-19 cases with direct and indirect on-campus impact by updating the table below. Please note:

  • We are only able to report cases that we have been made aware of through self-reporting.
  • Positive cases are counted based on the date the positive case is reported to the University, NOT the date of the positive COVID test; therefore, the below report should not be viewed as an accurate measure of the current status of COVID-19 at MGA.

Cases will be updated on this site by 5 p.m. each Monday

Definitions & clarification

DIRECT ON-CAMPUS IMPACT – individual was on an MGA campus within 2 days of symptom onset or receiving a positive test. If individual was not on campus during this time frame, the case is considered without direct on-campus impact.

INDIRECT ON-CAMPUS IMPACT – individual does not report being on an MGA campus within 2 days of symptom onset or receiving a positive test.

YTD (Year to Date) – The cumulative YTD data is for all cases that were reported to MGA in 2020. In March 2020, the University moved to online instruction for students and teleworking for most employees. During the summer, a limited number of students and staff were approved to return to campus. In August 2020, faculty and staff and then students returned to on-campus operations and classes. Prior to the start of classes on 8/12/2020, there were 14 positive cases reported YTD, comprised of nine students and five employees.

Reported Positive Cases – Positive cases are counted based on the date the confirmed positive case is self-reported to the University, NOT the actual date of the positive COVID test.

Employees – Employees include full-time and part-time employees and may also include contractor employees who regularly work on our campuses. Students who are employed part-time are reported within the student counts.

For this public reporting, the University intends to keep the public informed by sharing relevant data while maintaining the privacy of sensitive health information for individual students, faculty and staff.

Contact Tracing and Notification

The University has established a more robust relationship with Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) as DPH has ramped up its resources, with an identified liaison between MGA and DPH to facilitate information sharing.  Contact tracing will be conducted by DPH. If an individual is deemed by DPH to have increased risk because of exposure to positive COVID-19 individuals, DPH is responsible for notifying that individual. In some cases, affected individuals may reach out to other individuals personally to make them aware. Notifications of positive tests will continue to be provided on a local level within units at MGA, as warranted.
