Biography: | For both my bachelor’s and master’s degree, I attended Valdosta State University in my then hometown. My degrees are both in English; for my first degree, I minored in Spanish, and during my master’s program, I mainly focused on British literature. For the last 30 years, I have taught English all over America. I started out in Georgia and then taught in Montana, New York, Ohio, and North Carolina. For most of those years, I taught adjunct courses at small community colleges all the way up to large universities; however, for the last twenty years, I have taught a variety of English courses at Middle Georgia State University. I have two amazing daughters, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law, and THE cutest grandson--well, to us, anyway. :-) When I am not doing the mom or gigi thing, I am a total sci-fi geek. I adore the Marvel franchise, especially The X-Men and The Avengers. I am also a major Doctor Who fan. Pop Culture IS MY THING, so you will probably hear references to my research on such topics as zombies in popular television and fiction or connections of Loki, the trickster Norse demi-god, to Shakespearean characters. (Did I MENTION I am a total geek?) Also, I am a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan. Go PACK Go! My favorite author, William Butler Yeats, once said, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” That quote now is the underlying philosophy I lean on as an educator. |
