| Biography: | Dr. Kerry Garrett serves as the MSN Graduate Program Coordinator for the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program at Middle Georgia State University. Dr. Garrett has been practicing in the acute care practice setting for over 30 years and has served in varying roles and capacities in the clinical practice setting. Dr. Garrett began as a staff nurse working with Neurosurgical patients and progressed in his career to become an Administrative Clinical Coordinator at a Level 1 Trauma Center. Dr Garrett completed his Doctor of Health Administration and pursued a career in hospital consulting, but acute care was his calling and he returned to university to complete his Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2014. Post-graduation, Dr. Garrett has specialized in hospital medicine and as a Structural Cardiology Nurse Practitioner. Dr Garrett joined the Middle Georgia State University community as the MSN Graduate Program Coordinator for the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program in 2022. Dr. Garrett remains active in clinical practice in the hospital setting and serves on the Graduate Studies Council. Dr Garrett believes that everyone should do what they love and love what they do, everyone has a purpose in life, and treating patients and educating students is a passion that Dr Garrett feels is his purpose. |

I am committed to preparing advanced practice nurses who are not only clinically proficient but also ethically grounded and responsive to the complex needs of acutely ill adult and older adult populations. My teaching interests center on acute and critical care management, diagnostic reasoning, pharmacotherapeutics, and interprofessional collaboration. I strive to create a dynamic learning environment that bridges theory and practice through simulation, case-based learning, and clinical immersion. I emphasize reflective practice and cultural humility, encouraging students to develop a holistic understanding of patient care across diverse settings. In terms of research, my scholarly focus lies in improving outcomes for older adults in acute and transitional care settings. I am particularly interested in: • Clinical decision-making and diagnostic accuracy among AG-ACNPs, • Transitions of care from hospital to home or long-term care, • Management of multimorbidity and polypharmacy in older adults, • And the impact of advanced practice nursing roles on healthcare delivery and patient outcomes. My current research explores the use of predictive analytics and clinical decision support tools to enhance early recognition of deterioration in hospitalized older adults.
