Biography: | Giuliano Graniti regularly performs in Europe, Asia, and the United States as both soloist and chamber musician, giving recitals in international concert halls, such as: Teatro Comunale in Firenze, Teatro La Fenice in Venezia, Ehrbar Saal in Vienna, Vahdat Hall in Tehran, Stelio Molo Auditorium in Lugano, and Corbett Auditiorium in Cincinnati. His latest recoding, for Klavier Music Production, features John Adams’ Grand Pianola Music, with the CCM Wind Symphony conducted by Dr. Kevin Holzman. A music recording of his doctoral project, an arrangement for piano of Prokofiev's Symphony no. 5, is in schedule for the near future. His activity as a scholar covers piano pedagogy and literature. He regularly presents at local and national conferences about various topics. “Close Your Eyes and Make Music: A Case Study in Teaching Students with Visual Impairments,” at the MTNA National Conference 2021, focused on the concepts of flexibility and variability as experienced in tutoring a talented visual impaired studio-mate. In his lecture-recital “Music as an Instrument of Negotiation between Cultural Identities: The Case of Native American Music According to Louis W. Ballard and Alberto E. Ginastera,” he explored the fusion of Native American music and post-tonal technique in the works of Louis W. Ballard and Alberto E. Ginastera as a successful tool for intercultural exchange. He is also interested in the potential of the internet technology for helping college level piano education. Using advanced and preferably non-mainstream technology applied to the class piano instruction is one of his primary research areas, with the goal of contributing to create a system with improved access, content, and durability, and aiming for student inclusiveness and technological sustainability. He is the inventor of the patent-pending Piano OpenLab, a Linux virtual piano lab infrastructure for improved, innovative, and sustainable group piano instruction. He has earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music, and Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy in Italy and Switzerland. Among his teachers and mentors there are Michael Chertock, Nora Doallo, Andrea Lucchesini, and Aldo Ciccolini. |
