Courses: | I regularly teach both halves of American history (2111 and 2112) and the research seminar (4930). I've also offered classes in early and modern Native American history, early African American history, Abolitionism, Colonialism, Historical Methods, Music in American History, and America from 1815 to 1848. |

Publications: | My first book, New Worlds of Violence: Cultures and Conquests in the Early American Southeast, came out in 2011, and my most recent, Ocmulgee National Monument: A Brief History with Field Notes (co-authored with Gordon Johnston), dates to 2018. I've also contributed to Robbie Ethridge and Sheri Marie Shuck-Hall’s Mapping the Mississippian Shatter Zone and Michelle LeMaster and Brad Wood’s Creating and Contesting Carolina, as well as planned volumes about Tennessee history, John Brown, terrorism, and Ocmulgee archaeology. In 2013, Stephen Wallace Taylor and I co-authored a pictorial history of Macon. My most recent work is a new edition of William Bartram’s writings on Native Americans, published in 2014 as The Flower Hunter and the People: William Bartram in the Native American Southeast. |
