Biography: Renee S. Rainey serves as University Counsel for Middle Georgia State University ("MGA"), the newest university in the University System of Georgia (“USG”). Ms. Rainey serves as in-house legal counsel to MGA, as a member of the Office of the President, and a member of the President's Cabinet. Ms. Rainey provides a wide array of legal advice and assistance to the University, including liaising with the Office of Legal Affairs at the USG and Office of the Georgia Attorney General as needed, review of institutional agreements, development of policies and procedures, guidance on state and federal laws, and any litigation brought against the institution.

Ms. Rainey is originally from Lancaster, S.C. and graduated magna cum laude from Presbyterian College in 2007, where she received a B.S. in Mathematics and Political Science. Upon graduation from Presbyterian College, Ms. Rainey attended Mercer University, Walter F. George School of Law, where she was a member of the Moot Court Board and student member of the Bootle Inn of Court. Ms. Rainey received her J.D. from the Mercer University, Walter F. George School of Law in 2010 and was also admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 2010. Ms. Rainey is currently active in the State Bar of Georgia, the Macon Bar Association, and the William A. Bootle Inn of Court.

Ms. Rainey is a former partner with the firm Jones Cork, LLP in Macon, Georgia and practiced in the areas of education law, general litigation, insurance defense, business litigation, and appellate practice. During her tenure at Jones Cork, Ms. Rainey represented school districts and universities on a variety of specialized matters including, but not limited to, special education law (IDEA/Section 504), employee discipline and/or termination, student discipline, EEOC complaints, and employment discrimination. Ms. Rainey was recognized as a 2020 and 2021 Georgia Super Lawyers Rising Star in the area of Schools & Education law.
