Biography: I began my teaching career January of 1990 after completing a Master of Science degree in Administration from now Georgia Southwestern State University. I also hold an undergraduate degree in Computer Information Systems from Georgia Southwestern. In May 2007, I earned my Doctorate in Education from The University of Georgia. Currently, I teach Survey of Accounting (ACCT 2000), Principles of Accounting I (ACCT 2101) and Principles of Accounting II (ACCT 2102). Periodically, I have taught Communicating in the Business Environment (BUSA 2105) , Business Analysis using Excel (BUSA 3340), and Principles of Management (MGMT 3141). Other courses I have taught include Business Statistics, International Business, Business Law, and Quantitative Management as an adjunct on-line faculty for Georgia Southwestern for nearly a decade.

My teaching philosophy comes from an Essentialist’s point of view. Considered somewhat a rigid philosophy, the Essentialist teacher will teach basic and essential knowledge. I temper the Essentialist philosophy with Progressivism. The Progressive philosophy of teaching stands in stark contrast to Essentialism and basically promotes “free thinking” and democratic processes within the classroom. I believe most professors blend the various philosophies molding them into a workable embodiment of thought and practice.

Away from school, I have a strong appreciation for the outdoors. I come from a farming family background that appreciates and values family heritage. Being in close contact with family and friends that have supported me along life’s journey has been my escape from the routine. I’m an avid collector of WWII memorabilia, and am a huge fan of most of the HGTV programs dealing with home renovations; primarily those involving the older Victorian style homes.

I have a framed saying on my office wall, beside the door, that helps to remind me of why I have enjoyed this job so much. It reads, “The secret of happy living is not doing what you like, but liking what you do.” This adage comes from a spiritual core that has helped guide me with the motto, “to enjoy your work and to accept your lot in life………this is indeed a gift from God”.
