Department of Teacher Education and Social Work

Welcome to the Department of Teacher Education and Social Work. I am delighted that you are considering a degree that will prepare you to be a changemaker. As you consider your educational options, I encourage you to explore programs within our department.

The Teacher Education programs offer options for teaching grades P-5 and 6-12. The Bachelor of Science in Elementary/Special Education program prepares the candidate to provide educational services to ALL students in grades P-5. The Secondary Education Certification Track program prepares the candidate to provide educational services for students in a selected content area in grades 6-12. Finally, the Master of Arts in Secondary Education program prepares a candidate, who holds a bachelor's degree in an approved content area, to teach in that content area.

The Bachelor of Science in Social Work program prepares professionals who seek to make a difference in the lives of others at many levels. Generalist social workers support individuals, groups, communities, and organizations through assessment, problem-solving, and empowerment.

As the Chair of the Department of Teacher Education and Social Work, I consider it a privilege to work alongside the faculty and staff in serving MGA students within each of our programs, as I recognize the positive impact that each has to offer. I invite you to join our community of change-makers. In the words of Nelson Mandela, “We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference.”

Sincerely,

Dr. Rhonda Amerson
Chair, Department of Teacher Education and Social Work
