JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for driving MGA-owned buses or vans for athletic, student or other university-related events.

MAJOR DUTIES:

• Transport MGA faculty, staff, students and special guests as directed.

• Maintain a clean and mechanically-sound vehicle at all times, reporting maintenance issues to Plant Operations office in a timely manner.

• Obey all traffic laws and MGA best practices.

• Perform inspections of the bus or van before and after each route.

• Complete odometer and other reports as requested by the university.

• Communicate with requestor to ensure knowledge of destination and route to be taken.

• Ensure bus is fueled and at pickup and drop-off locations as scheduled.

• Participate in regular and ongoing safety training.

• Notify supervisor within one business day of any incidents that could impact personal or professional driving record (accidents, moving violations, DUI, etc.).

• In case of an emergency while operating an MGA vehicle, immediately report any incidents, tickets or accidents to supervisor, Plant Operations office or Public Safety (in the case of after hours or weekend incidents).

• Knowledge of and ability to report mechanical failures that may occur according to set procedures.

• Follow and abide by Georgia Department of Administrative Services, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Standards and Department of Transportation policies and procedure at all times.

• Sustain a current and active CDL with Passenger endorsement and DOT physical at all times.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

General knowledge and skills required to operate a bus (more than 15 passengers) or van.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:

The Director of Auxiliary Services or his designee will provide schedule and destination information related to the job.

GUIDELINES:

Guidelines include all federal, state and local laws, including traffic rules.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK: This work consists of consistent and routine job duties. There may be variety in job complexity that comes with operation of a moving vehicle, e.g., knowing the procedure to call should the vehicle experience a flat tire or other mechanical malfunction.

CONTACTS: Contacts include students, faculty, staff, campus visitors, non-student minors and members of the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Ability to sit for extended periods of time, operate a broom and mop, bend and pick-up trash. Employee may be exposed to dirt, dust, noise, or machinery with moving parts, Work is typically performed in an air-conditioned moving vehicle. In case of an emergency, employee may be exposed to inclement weather. Schedule is non-consistent and based on customer demand and employee availability.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This employee has no supervisory responsibility

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• A minimum of a Class-C Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required

• Passenger (P) endorsement, in order to drive a vehicle with more than 15 passengers.

• Current DOT physical

• 5+ years’ experience driving with a CDL license

• No at-fault accidents in the last 3 years

• Clean driving record (no traffic citations in last 3 years)

• Ability to carry out assigned route in the time frame required

• Ability to pass random drug tests

SALARY: $13.00 per hour
