Middle Georgia State University is launching a nationwide search for a new provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.

Myers McRae Executive Search and Consulting is handling the search for the University.

The provost and VPAA is the chief academic officer. The person in the position is expected to provide strategic vision and academic leadership to advance the mission and goals of Middle Georgia State. This executive officer promotes the goals of access and affordability and is committed to the success of both faculty and students. The provost and VPAA represents the University's academic endeavors with key constituents, including the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia and elected officials. In the president's absence, the provost and VPAA serves as the chief executive officer of the institution.

The new executive will replace Dr. Melanie Hatch.

At President Christopher Blake’s request, Dr. Troy Sullivan will serve as chair of the 2017 MGA Provost Search Committee.  The Search Committee is made up of the following members:

  • Dr. Troy Sullivan, Professor of Business (Chair of the Search Committee) (representing the Faculty At Large)
  • Ms. Cheryl Carty, Vice President for Recruitment & Chief Marketing Officer (representing the Cabinet and Management)
  • Dr. Michael Gibbons, Director for Institutional Research (representing the Office of Academic Affairs)
  • Ms. Devereaux Lindsey, Student Affairs Officer (representing the Office of Student Affairs and the Student Body)
  • Faculty Senator, TBD at the August 25 meeting of the Senate (representing the Faculty Senate)
  • Mr. Henry Whitfield, Campus Director for Cochran & Eastman (representing the Campus Directors)
  • Dr. Ron Williams, Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences (representing the Council of Deans)

Additionally, Ms. Vicky Smith, Executive Director for Human Resources, will be an ex-officio member of the Committee, advising on matters of search protocol, USG/MGA policies and other HR-related matters.
