Tyler Lanciano’s passion for aviation is leading him to a career as a helicopter pilot.

Full Name: Tyler Lanciano.

Age: 19.

Hometown and Residence: Newburgh, New York.

High School: William Monroe High where he was active in doing various theatrical presentations and participated in concert band and marching band.

Family: “I would like to mention and thank my father, Kelvin Lanciano, and mother, Dawn Cooper, for being so supportive of my career and life choices.”

Current Employment: Full-time student.

Degree Objective: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Flight Management - Helicopter.

Class Rank: Sophomore.

Primary Campus: Eastman.

Activities: “I am a member of the Rotorheads Club. I am the secretary and treasurer for the Eastman Campus SGA. I am also on the drum line for the school’s very first marching band.”

Career Goals: “My career goal is to become the best helicopter pilot I can be. The reason I want to be a pilot professionally is because of my passion for aviation and flying, not just with helicopters. I have always looked to the skies to see what was flying over since before I can remember. If it were realistically possible, I would fly and teach others about aviation for free.”

He chose Middle Georgia State College because … “It was the most logical choice and best fit for me to obtain all my helicopter training and a bachelor’s degree at one time and in one place. The sacrifice of having to live almost a thousand miles away from home is worth the experience and education.”

The one thing that surprised him about Middle Georgia State was … “The class sizes. I was worried that I would be in a class of 300 when I entered college, but that is not the case here, unlike most other large schools. I love the small classes because the professor can give better one-on-one time with students and actually have class interactions.”

His favorite professor is … “Dr. Buckner Melton. I took his U.S. government class and U.S. history before 1865. I say he is my favorite because he always made class interesting, no matter the subject. It was the only class that I have taken so far where everyone was always eager to add to the class discussion and ask questions. His courses were demanding in terms of difficulty, but I believe it made me a better student in the process.”

His favorite place to study is … “My dorm room. I live on the top floor and at the end of the building, so it is usually the quietest place.”

One thing people don’t know about him is … “I enjoy cooking and experimenting with food. Often I’ll find a challenging recipe and attempt to cook it.”

His friends make fun of him because … “I love music. I love playing music, performing and, of course, listening to it. I’m attempting to learn to play as many different instruments as I can."

The one person he’d most like to meet is … “George R.R. Martin because I am a big fan of the series ‘A Song of Ice and Fire.’ It is amazing that so much creativity can come from one person for just one long book series. I don’t understand how he can keep track of everything and tie together so many different story lines so well.”

Five years from now he sees himself … “Flying helicopter tours in Las Vegas and finally making a decent living from what I love to do.”
