Middle Georgia State honored three faculty members at the 2015 Honors Convocation for excellence in their work.

Dr. Jeffrey Mohr, assistant professor of biology, received the Excellence in Teaching award. He joined Middle Georgia State in 2011. He is a herpetologist by training and has published articles related to his field. Mohr has a strong passion for teaching non-majors in biology and has had great success getting them excited about science and how it relates to their lives. Many students report that he is one of their favorite professors. He goes to great lengths getting both biology majors and non-majors to have hands-on research experiences.

Dr. Matt Jennings, associate professor of history, received the Excellence in Scholarship award. He joined Middle Georgia State in 2007. His work has focused on early Native American history and violence but at various points in his career he has researched Thomas Paine, John Brown, Nat Turner, William Bartram, local history of Macon and popular culture. He has written three books since 2011, including "New Worlds of Violence: Cultures and Conquests in the Early American Southeast," "The Flower Hunter and the People: William Bartram in the Native American Southeast" and, with Dr. Stephen Taylor, "Macon."

Dr. Sheree Keith, associate professor of communication studies, received the Excellence in Service award. She joined Middle Georgia State in 2006. She has served as co-advisor to the student newspaper, The Statement. She has organized several off-campus student learning experiences, including a behind-the scenes tour at CNN and a trip to the ACP/CMA National College Media Convention in St. Louis, Mo. Every year since 2010, while serving as advisor to the MGA Gay Straight Alliance, she has brought interested students to the LGBTQ and Allies Conference at Georgia Southern University. One year she organized a session at the conference, where several Middle Georgia State students got a chance to make presentations. She is also faculty advisor for the MGA chapter of Young Democrats.
