As part of Spring Fling, Middle Georgia State University's Dublin Campus is hosting a volleyball tournament for students and for employees of AWEBA Group and Erdrich, two German-based companies with operations in Laurens County.

The tournament begins at noon Thursday, April 21, on the Dublin Campus. Registration is now open to Middle Georgia State students and employees of the two companies at UVFC2016.com or by emailing lynn.allen@mga.edu.

The event's primary organizer, Middle Georgia State freshman Brandon Poulton, got the idea for the tournament after meeting a German native now living in Dublin and working for AWEBA Group. The young man, a volleyball enthusiast, was disappointed to learn there are no leagues in Dublin.

Poulton thought hosting a volleyball tournament would be a good way to show hospitality to his new friend.

"I had told him we should try to get some friends together for a game, but as so often happens it never came about," Poulton said. "The idea of a volleyball tournament seemed to be the most logical way to set things right."

AWEBA Group and Erdrich are tournament sponsors. Other sponsors, which are providing prizes, are Middle Georgia State, Leprechaun Car Wash, My Coffeeshop, Total Re-Sell and Burger King. Food will be served to all the players.

Erdrich Umformtechnik GmbH & Co.KG (Erdrich) is an automotive supplier. AWEBA Group is a large die-making enterprise.
