Middle Georgia State University's Peacock Gallery will display the work of artist Elsie Hill, assistant professor of Foundations, Painting and Drawing at Georgia Southern University, from October 10 through November 4.

An opening reception and gallery talk will take place at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at Peacock Gallery, located in Russell Hall on MGA's Cochran Campus. This event is free and open to the public.

Peacock Gallery's regular hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon on Friday. Admission is free. Campus maps and directions: https://www.mga.edu/about/maps.php.

Elsie Hill is primarily a painter who is also working with sculptural elements in this exhibition. The source material for this exhibition consists of photographs that she takes and artifacts that she collects from sites during demolition. She combines, rearranges and manipulates these images and artifacts in order to identify and isolate significant elements. The painted image serves as a representation of an object or space that has been deconstructed. When the painting is paired with an artifact, the work toggles between simulation and incorporation of elements from the former structure resulting in a visual record of architecture discarded in the wake of urban renewal.
