Middle Georgia State University and the Macon-Bibb County government will jointly observe Veterans Day at a ceremony in downtown Macon on Friday, November 11. Mayor Robert Reichert and other leaders will join Middle Georgia State President Christopher Blake at the World War I memorial at the base of Coleman Hill for the ceremony, which will begin at 11:00 a.m. Students from Middle Georgia State will be planting flowers at the Memorial prior to the ceremony.

The program – which is open to the public – will include the Posting of the Colors by the University’s Police Honor Guard; singing of the National Anthem and Amazing Grace; remarks from the Mayor and University President Dr. Christopher Blake; a reading of “In Flanders Fields; and a Laying of the Wreath at the Memorial.

“Every November, we must use the occasion of Veteran’s Day to reflect upon the sacrifices that veterans have made throughout the years in service to this country and to the ideals of global peace and prosperity,” says Dr. Blake. “In this election year, particularly, I feel that it is important for us to remember and to give thanks to those who gave so much to ensure that we can continue to chart our own course as a nation.”
