Middle Georgia State University (MGA) is introducing a Master of Science in Management this summer following the program's approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

The regional accrediting agency notified MGA President Dr.Christopher Blake of its approval on February 23, 2017.

“The MS in Management is an excellent complement to our growing suite of graduate programs,” said Provost Melanie Hatch. “This program was designed to provide the breadth and depth of knowledge needed to effectively lead and manage organizations in the Middle Georgia region.”

Many of the Master of Science in Management classes will be offered face-to-face in the evenings at MGA's Warner Robins Campus, where the Office of Graduate Studies is based. MGA's School of Business consulted with Robins Air Force Base and other business and industry partners to come up with a program that provides career pathways in logistics and supply chain management. The degree is also designed to give bachelor's degree graduates in accounting the master's-level course hours they need to be eligible to take the CPA exam.

"With this degree, we're making an especially strong commitment to Houston County and Warner Robins," said Dr. Kevin Cantwell, dean of Graduate Studies. "We see adding a premier graduate program in Management as a powerful way to help support the base's mission, although the degree is open to qualified students no matter where they work. Houston County and Warner Robins have been very good to Middle Georgia State, and the creation of a signature graduate program based on our campus here is also a response to the commitment they've made to us."

MGA became a State University in July 2015. Shortly after that, the University rolled out the Master of Science in Information Technology, with concentrations in Information Security & Digital Forensics, Software Development and Health Informatics, and the Master of Science in Nursing: Adult/Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Besides the just-approved Management degree, other graduate programs are in various stages of development.

In December 2016, the University graduated ten of its first master's degree students, all in the IT program.

MGA's Master of Science in Management, scheduled to begin summer semester 2017, requires the completion of 31 credit hours. The School of Business will begin processing student applications and accepting students immediately.
