Faculty Members Receive Service, Teaching and Scholarship Awards

Dr. Paul Gladden, associate professor of Psychology, received the Excellence in Scholarship Award. Gladden has authored or co-authored multiple journal articles and a commentary in peer-reviewed journals. In addition, he authored three scholarly book chapters in the Encyclopedia of Personality and Individual Differences and the Encyclopedia of Evolutionary Psychological Science. His empirical research is theoretically-driven by life-history theory, an evolutionary developmental theory that attempts to account for both differences between species and individual differences within a species in the timing of key events in an individual’s life. Gladden has collaborated with scholars in Mexico, Australia, Singapore, and Italy.
Dr. Keri Justice, assistant professor of Nursing, received the Excellence in Teaching Award. She is a pedagogical role model who exudes consistent and admirable professionalism, passion, mentoring and caring for her students. Justice uses engaging instructional strategies, interactive case studies, and round table discussions in her classes. She recently developed course requirements and activities that promote experiential learning to encourage student knowledge or research.
Dr. Randy Spaid, professor of Education, received the Excellence in Service Award. Spaid has played a crucial role in the design and implementation of innovative curriculum for the courses in the Early Childhood Special Education, Middle Grades, and secondary Biology programs at MGA. He led the establishment of the Professional Development School partnership with the Bibb County School District and is involved in the Killen’s Project “Science Day at College.” At the regional level, Spaid's service includes serving as a volunteer TAPP seminar leader for the Middle Georgia Regional Service Agency, senior judge for the annual Georgia ISEP State Competition and Georgia State Technology Fair. He recently received the John Shrum Award, which honors a lifelong commitment to science education.
