The Macon Campus of Middle Georgia State University is hosting a National Planting Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16.

Sponsored by Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful and Middle Georgia State's Waddell Barnes Botanical Gardens, the ceremony begins in the Foundation Board Room of the Macon Campus Student Life Center (enter the cafeteria and turn left). Speakers will be Adam Cochran, chair, Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful Commission, and Gary Wilson, owner/horticulturist, TGW Garden Design & Installation.

After remarks, the group will walk outside of the Student Life Center and plant a serviceberry tree: “This small but graceful native tree offers year-round interest to the landscape – pink blossoms in spring, attractive medium-textured foliage and edible fruits in summer, colorful foliage in autumn, and handsome smooth gray bark in winter. "

This event is free and open to the public. Campus maps and directions are at www.mga.edu/about/maps.php. For more information, contact Laura Gay, Middle Georgia State's director of Plant Administration, at laura.gay@mga.edu.
