Continuing an upward trend, Middle Georgia State University (MGA) grew its enrollment this fall by more than 4 percent over last year.

MGA's fall 2020 enrollment reached 8,404 students, according to the University System of Georgia’s official report released Wednesday, Nov. 11. Besides a 4.2 percent overall enrollment gain, MGA saw an increase of 39 percent in students enrolled in master’s degree programs.

“This is our eighth consecutive semester of enrollment growth,” said MGA President Dr. Christopher Blake. "During the pandemic our Enrollment Management division was hard at work communicating with current and newly admitted students to assist them with enrollment for classes this fall. Our success in offering fully online degrees through MGA Direct has been especially effective at this time for students who want to remain at home while working on their degrees.”

The latest numbers show MGA continuing an upward trend that began in summer 2018 when the University posted a 7.4 percent increase in enrollment over the same period the previous year.

“Our goal remains growing enrollment with purpose and direction," said Jennifer Stenander, vice president for Enrollment Management. “We continue to draw traditional students from around the state because of our affordable tuition, strong degree programs, and various amenities, such as the new Lakeview Pointe residence hall on our Macon Campus. As far as students already in the workforce, our Office of Strategic Partnerships continues to develop partnerships with employers to help them encourage more of their employees to begin or complete degrees easily through our online campus, MGA Direct.”

MGA was one of 16 out of the 26 University System institutions that saw enrollment increases this fall. Overall, the University System saw a 2.4 percent enrollment growth over last fall.

All during November, MGA is waiving the $30 application fee for prospective students. Details are here.
