In celebration of Arbor Day and in collaboration with the Future Farmers of America (FFA) State Convention, Middle Georgia State University (MGA) will host two special campus beautification events on the Macon Campus.
On April 24 and 25, MGA will host approximately 250 FFA students as they engage in volunteer work in MGA’s Macon Campus gardens. This marks the fourth consecutive year that the FFA students have generously contributed their time and effort to enhance MGA campuses. Tyler Austin, MGA grounds manager, has been selected to serve as a judge for the FFA State Convention Agriscience Fair for the second consecutive year.
On Wednesday, April 24, MGA will host an Arbor Day celebration and tree planting at 11 a.m. between the Library and Teacher Education Building (TEB) on the Macon Campus. The MGA community is invited to attend the ceremony, where University representatives will plant a shady lane Compton oak and present an Arbor Day proclamation. As part of the celebration, MGA staff will provide a demonstration for FFA students on proper tree planting techniques.
“We’re excited to celebrate Arbor Day with the campus community and the hardworking FFA student volunteers,” says Austin. “Campus beautification projects like these are important steps towards fostering a sustainable campus and creating a peaceful and welcoming environment for our students.”
For those unable to attend the ceremony, there are plenty of opportunities to make a difference and get involved in the eco-friendly fun. On Friday, April 26, the Arbor Day Foundation will plant a tree for every Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook post with the hashtag #ArborDay to spread awareness and contribute to reforestation efforts across the globe.
