The Ben G. Porter Trust has awarded the Middle Georgia State University (MGA) Foundation an unrestricted gift of $70,000 to help support scholarships and other initiatives.
This latest gift comes as the Porter Trust’s remaining funds were liquidated and divided between MGA and Mercer University. The trust honored the legacy of Benjamin G. Porter Jr., a prominent Macon area leader who died in 2010.
“We are honored to be part of Mr. Porter’s enduring impact on the community he loved,” said Nancy White, MGA’s vice president for University Advancement. “This gift will help the Foundation continue to address some of the University’s greatest needs by supporting scholarships, classroom and program enhancements, and quality academics. We are grateful to the Ben G. Porter Trust for recognizing the University’s value to this region by entrusting us with this gift.”
The MGA Foundation has now received a total of $160,100 from the Ben G. Porter Trust. For years, the Foundation awarded an endowed scholarship in Porter’s name.
Porter was the president of Charter Medical International and senior vice president of Charter Medical Corporation. He was one of the founders of Macon’s Ocmulgee Heritage Trail and served on numerous boards and authorities in the state, including the Georgia Board of Natural Resources.
The Middle Georgia State University Foundation, Inc. is a philanthropic foundation that raises and manages donations to support Middle Georgia State University's mission and goals. As the cooperative partner of the University and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Foundation is managed by a separate governing board of trustees.
