Middle Georgia State University (MGA) is officially one of the best places in the nation to work in higher education.
The University has been named a 2025 “Great College to Work For,” one of only 76 institutions nationwide to receive the honor this year.
The recognition, announced September 19 in The Chronicle of Higher Education and on GreatCollegesList.com, puts MGA among the top-performing colleges in the country based on extensive employee feedback and a national survey of 199 institutions.
Adding to the distinction, the program named MGA an “Honor Roll Institution” for earning recognition in nine of the program’s 10 categories. That is a rare achievement and places the University in elite company among medium-sized institutions (3,000–9,999 students).
MGA stood out in the following categories:
- Job Satisfaction & Support
- Compensation & Benefits
- Professional Development
- Mission & Pride
- Supervisor/Department Chair Effectiveness
- Confidence in Senior Leadership
- Faculty & Staff Well-being
- Shared Governance
- Faculty Experience
“This recognition affirms what we strive for every day at Middle Georgia State University, which is to live out our core values of stewardship, engagement, adaptability, and learning,” said Dr. Christopher Blake, MGA president. “Earning a place among the ‘Great Colleges to Work For’ is not simply about the honor itself, but about the culture we build together as faculty and staff in service to our students and communities. At MGA, we are committed to ensuring that our workplace reflects the same excellence and spirit of care that we seek to instill in our graduates.”
The “Great Colleges to Work For” program is among the nation’s most respected workplace-recognition initiatives in higher education. Employee voices play a significant role: survey responses from faculty, administrators, and staff weigh heavily in the final results, which are analyzed by ModernThink, a strategic human capital consulting firm.
MGA is a leading public university in Georgia, committed to offering high-quality educational opportunities and fostering an engaged and welcoming community. The best value state university in the University System of Georgia, MGA serves 8,700+ students on campuses in Macon, Cochran, Dublin, Eastman, and Warner Robins, and online. The University offers 70+ areas of study and degrees at the doctorate, master's, and bachelor's levels, along with select career-oriented associate's degrees and certificates. MGA is home to the state's flagship School of Aviation, based on the Eastman Campus.
