Dr. Scott Spangler
Dr. Scott C. Spangler, associate professor of information technology at Middle Georgia State University, has been selected as a Governor’s Teaching Fellow for the May 2026 symposium program. The symposium theme is, "Where Generative AI Skills and Human Essential Skills Meet in Higher Ed."
Spangler is one of a select group of faculty members from institutions across Georgia chosen for the competitive Governor’s Teaching Fellows program. Established in 1995 by then-Gov. Zell Miller, the program provides faculty at Georgia’s higher education institutions with opportunities to strengthen teaching skills and explore innovative instructional approaches. The program helps educators integrate emerging technologies and instructional tools into their teaching, benefiting student learning across disciplines.
Spangler’s teaching and research focus on how digital culture utilizes technology, mobile technology, and emerging innovations. Before joining MGA, he spent more than 20 years working in the communications field, bringing extensive real-world experience into the classroom to help students understand the evolving relationship between media, technology, and society.
He holds a Doctor of Science in Information Systems and Communications from Robert Morris University, a Master of Arts in Mass Communication and Journalism from Point Park University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications, with a minor in photojournalism, also from Point Park University.
