grandmother and The Misfit, the archetypal models of good and evil are challenged to reveal that
things are not always what they seem. She has portrayed a grandmother, who is certainly a
contrast to the archetypal model. She has portrayed a murderer who invokes the sympathy of her
audience. Through the dualistic natures of these characters, O’Connor forces her readers to step
outside of their perceptions and embrace a new way to see.
