clubs in their own private enclaves.
The moguls,who had created Hollywood and through the studio system led it to its
golden era, continued to hold great influence over the industry through this era. They were joined
by Jewish directors, writers, and actors in creating an identity for the newly arriving Jewish
immigrant. Faced with the presence of anti-Semitism and their own desire to be assimilate into
culture, they used films to give an identity to Jews. The identity was the one the moguls had
given themselves. Assimilated. These assimilated moguls knew the key to theirsuccess was to
keep the Jewish film character among the missing.
