Letter from the President

In our third year as a state university, we find ourselves on a promising trajectory. We have launched the Strategic
Plan that will carry us into the 2020s, aptly titled “2018-2023: Elevating Middle Georgia.” We are seeing growth in
enrollment and have been ranked by U.S. News & World Report for the first time as one institution.
We began the year by laying out a vision for our aspirations as Middle Georgia State reached its fifth birthday. With
new leadership in place, we immediately set to work on identifying our strengths and pursuing an academic strategy
that uses those strengths to address workforce and community needs.
Through the work of an Enrollment Action Team, we eliminated a gap in recruitment and retention from Fall 2017 to
Spring 2018 and laid the groundwork for a new division to continue strategically growing enrollment. We continue to
pursue opportunities—such as dual enrollment and direct pipelines to career paths—that will contribute to economic
growth, both locally and statewide.
Our partners in the community have stepped up to invest in our potential
at a pivotal moment in our development as a university. Our students are
finding more opportunities than ever to gain not only the classroom
learning but the co-curricular experiences that will transform their lives
and our communities.
As we approach the final quarter of 2018, we could not be more optimistic
about the direction of Middle Georgia’s public university—one that is not
only a ordable and accessible but truly transformational. Thank you for
your support of Middle Georgia State University during a milestone year!
With warm regards,

Christopher Blake, Ph.D.
President
