Adapting to Growth
New Programs and Delivery
In our first year as a university, we launched two graduate programs, the Master of Science in Information
Technology and the Master of Science in Nursing. Those programs thrived this year as we awarded our
first MSIT degrees in December 2016 and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
granted initial accreditation to our MSN program in August 2017.
In 2017, we introduced two more programs, the Master of Science in Management and the Master of Arts
in Teaching. Enrollment in our graduate programs has nearly tripled, from 47 students in early 2016 to
more than 120 students today.
As our graduate enrollment continues to grow, we are adding new programs geared toward helping our
students thrive in today’s changing workforce. Another two programs were approved by the Board of
Regents this year: a Graduate Certificate in Technical Writing & Digital Communications and a Bachelor
of Arts in Contemporary Musicianship.
We have plans for more program additions — ranging from bachelor’s degrees in Political Science,
Engineering Technology and Rehabilitative Sciences to a Master of Social Work — and we are also
exploring new ways to deliver courses. For instance, to make lifelong learning accessible to working
adults, we are piloting Saturday classes on our Warner Robins Campus starting in January 2018.
For us at Middle Georgia State, adaptability means not only using new technologies but listening to what
our current and prospective students need — and delivering on it.
