Bachelor of Science in Social Work
Social work is a profession that seeks to make a difference at many levels. Drawing upon a strengths perspective, BSW generalist social workers support individuals, groups, communities and organizations through assessment, problem-solving and empowerment. As a social work student at MGA you will learn through community-based, hands-on learning; so that you might serve and advocate through direct and community practice within the region’s rural and urban centers, and beyond. As you work to complete your BSW you will truly learn through doing and caring.

Mission of the MGA BSW Program
The BSW Program at MGA prepares engaged, lifelong learners through community-based experiential learning. Students are equipped to apply generalist social work skills to address the needs of diverse individuals, families and communities. Grounded in the principle values of service, competence, the importance of human relationships, diversity and social justice, the MGA BSW Program is committed to the development of skilled professional social workers, engaged in the empowerment of marginalized and underserved populations within the surrounding rural and near urban region.
Are you a good fit?
- Desire to help others and the surrounding community
- Able to take face-to-face and hybrid courses on the Macon campus
- GPA of 2.5 or above for formal admission
- Completion of program prerequisite courses (PSYC 1101, PSYC 2103, MATH 1401, SOCI 1101, SOCW 2215, SOCW 2400, SOCW 2500, and SOCW 2700) with a C or better, for formal admission
- Ability to plan for a total of 400 field practicum hours taken in the senior year; 200 hours in each semester of the senior year
- Able to take classes and complete practicum hours during business hours (see cohort schedules below)
