Lawful Presence Verification
The Board of Regents of University System of Georgia (USG) requires all students applying for admission to Middle Georgia State (MGA) to provide verification of their lawful presence in the United States in order to be classified as in-state for tuition purposes. This includes students who have been previously enrolled at MGA but are either returning (re-entry) to a degree program or applying for a new degree program. Transient students must also be verified. Students may be verified through one of the following options:
- Verification through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) – confirmation will be submitted electronically to the Admissions office
- Submission of one of the following documents:
- Current driver’s license/ID issued by the state of Georgia after January 1, 2008. A limited license is not acceptable.*
- Military ID (service member only, not dependent). Photocopies are not acceptable; must be submitted in person.
- Current U.S. passport*
- U.S. birth certificate (certified). Photocopies are not acceptable; must be submitted in person.
- Current, valid Permanent Resident Card (USCIS form I-151 or I-551) – front and back*
- U.S. certificate of naturalization*
- U.S. certificate of citizenship*
- U.S. certificate of birth abroad issued by the Department of State or a consular report of birth abroad*

Note: If you have been classified as an out-of-state student for tuition purposes, verification of lawful presence in the United States may not change your status as an out-of-state student. Additional information may be needed.
