Scholarships

The Office of Financial Aid at MGA encourages students to search for scholarships to help finance their education. Our office will post external scholarship announcements as they are made available. Please visit this page often as the information is updated frequently. You can conduct your own scholarship search through your affiliation with religious or civic organizations, local banks and credit unions, and employers.

Remember to avoid financial aid scams. Just as there are many scholarship opportunities, there are many scholarship scams. Always trust your instincts. If an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Read and follow these steps to protect yourself from fraud:

  • Never pay a fee to have a FAFSA Completed or to apply for scholarships. The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. If a company asks for money to help you complete your FAFSA, it’s a scam.
  • Ignore offers that involve time pressure. A scholarship application will have a deadline to apply, but you will never be pressured for an immediate response.
  • Never give out personal information to strangers.
  • Never respond to a scholarship offer for which you never applied.

How to Write a Scholarship Essay

A requirement of many scholarship applications is submission of an essay. The topic of the essay may be very broad, or the organization might want to read your ideas on a particular issue that is currently affecting society. The method used to convey your ideas and your writing style has an enormous impact on your application being selected to receive the scholarship. Middle Georgia State University Foundation Scholarships

The Middle Georgia State University (MGA) Foundation offers some 165 scholarships funded through private donors. The quantity and variety are dynamic, as new donors learn of opportunities to invest in MGA students. Many of the Foundation scholarships are general while others apply to specific academic areas.

All MGA students are considered for our Foundation scholarships and no formal applications are required. Students receiving a scholarship will be notified via their MGA email.

MGA begins awarding scholarships in May and continues throughout the academic year. A thank you letter and photo are required to accept a scholarship gift. Please regularly check your SWORDS account for updates on your awards and outstanding requirements. For additional information about specific scholarships please contact us at scholarships@mga.edu.
