Immunization Requirements and Guidelines

GENERAL INFORMATION

As a unit of the University System of Georgia, Middle Georgia State University (MGA) adheres to the Board of Regents Policy (USG Policy 4.8.2) related to immunization requirements for school entrance by students and requires all student provide proof of immunization of specific vaccines verified by their health care provider.  Students should submit their Certificate of Immunization forms upon admittance to MGA.

Immunization Hold

An immunization hold will be added to the student's BANNER account for all immunization requirements not satisfied by thirty days after the first day of the term they are admitted.  The hold will prevent registration for the next term.  The hold can be removed once the required documentation has been received.

To assist students in meeting the immunization requirements, MGA accesses immunization records from the Georgia Immunization Registry (GRITS).  If the required immunizations are not in the GRITS system, acceptable forms showing proof of immunity include:

  • An official document from a physician, clinic, or county health department which shows current immunization
  • The MGA Certificate of Immunization signed by a health care provider.
  • A blood test (titer) showing the student's immunity

Immunization records should be emailed to registrar@mga.edu or healthclinic@mga.edu.  Students may also drop their records off in person to the Registrar's Office or Health Clinic.

Students requesting an exemption should complete the student information section of The MGA Certificate of Immunization and the appropriate exemption category at the bottom of the page, sending the completed document via email to registrar@mga.edu or healthclinic@mga.edu.

Please contact the Registrar's Office at 478-471-2900 or the MGA Health Clinic at 478-934-3080 (Cochran) or 478-471-2092 (Macon) for additional questions.

Students, especially those living in on-campus residence halls, are at a higher risk for Hepatitis and Meningitis and should be educated about the availability of a safe and effective vaccine which can decrease the risk.
