Only state employees who have been deemed an Authorized Driver are allowed/authorized to drive for state business. Only if a student is in a Structured Volunteer Program, has specific driving duties outlined in their approved volunteer agreement, and have met all the criteria to become an authorized driver. Then they are authorized to drive while conducting those and only those specific duties.

You must first fill out this form completely: https://www.mga.edu/risk-management/docs/Driver_Acknowledgement_Form.pdf submit it to Trish Norwood for processing. Once Trish has processed your driver history she will determine if you are authorized or need to take additional steps in order to be authorized and will contact you.

If you are going to be operating a 15 passenger van or a golf cart you will need to take additional steps. If you are interested in driving those types of vehicles, contact Trish Norwood to have those training courses assigned. Once you have successfully completed the course and provide the certificate of completion to you will then be authorized to drive those vehicles.

In each state vehicle there is an insurance form found here on the risk management website: https://www.mga.edu/riskmanagement/docs/Georgia_Liability_Insurance_Identification_Card.pdf If you are driving your personal vehicle you should have a copy of the insurance form with you while conducting state business. The form informs you of what to do, information needed and who to contact to report the accident. After following all the directions on the form you should then contact your supervisor to make them aware of the situation. You will need to file with your insurance carrier for any damages to the vehicle as the state insurance only covers people and not their property. Reserving a state vehicle is always your best option, but if you choose to drive your personal vehicle, keep in mind that liability for your vehicle belongs to you and not the state should you be in an accident. You will be solely responsible for any deductibles associated with damages to your vehicle. The state insurance only covers the driver and only if they are in the commission of conducting their assigned duties on state business. This means no passengers or stops for personal errands as this will change your status from conducting state business to conducting personal business in which you will have no injury coverage with the state.
