Middle Georgia State University is dedicated to serving the educational needs of those who are serving or who have served in our nation’s armed forces and their families. Dedicated staff are available to assist you in receiving academic credit for military service, processing the necessary VA paperwork to insure your education benefits are properly applied, and answering any other questions you may have.

MGA offers Veteran and Military students, as well as their families, several tools to help determine their cost of attendance. You can easily take a look to compare Undergraduate Tuition and Graduate Tuition. In addition, the Office of Admissions posts a list of Estimated Costs and the Bursar’s Office provides a list of all Fees. Between them, these tools include information on books and supplies, room and board for residential students, tuition and fees for both graduate and undergraduate programs, and other living expenses. The University also offers a Net Price Calculator tool to assist you in determining the costs of pursuing a degree that can be personalized to each student’s particular circumstances. 

Middle Georgia State University proudly participates in a Voluntary Education Partnership with the United States Department of Defense. Credit for Military Service

In accordance with procedures established by the University system of Georgia, MGA offers credit for military service using the following criteria (USG Academic and Student Affairs Handbook, 2.16 Credit for Military Service) and based on training courses identified in the American Council on Education (ACE). The total number of combined hours earned through correspondence, extension, and military experiences shall not exceed 15 credit hours. MGA will also award a maximum of 40 credit hours towards a degree through prior learning assessments which include Advanced Placement Program College Entrance Exam (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), DANTES/DSST Subject Examinations, and departmental challenge exams. Academic Credit

Requests for academic credit based on military experience can be made through the academic advisor, the program director, the department chair or the Registrar's Office. The following procedure is to be followed:

1. Request for academic credit is submitted using the Military Evaluation Form.
2. The Registrar researches the American Council on Education (ACE) Guide to determine the recommendation made by that organization.
3. The Registrar advises appropriate academic officer (e.g., department head) program of ACE recommendation(s).
4. The appropriate academic officer advises registrar of what credit, if any, is to be granted in that specific discipline. Per Board of Regent's policy, credit should not be awarded for course/experiences not offered by that academic institution.
5. The Registrar's Office records appropriate credit on official transcript and advises both the student and academic advisor of the credit that has been granted.

Active Duty Military Students Exemption of Special Institutional Fee

Students who are currently serving full-time on active duty in a branch of the armed forces of the United States are eligible to request an exemption of the Special Institutional Fee.

Isakson-Roe (HR 7105) Information

Veterans and military students, and their family members, are entitled to certain information as specified in the Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020 (HR 7105) when they are receiving Tuition Assistance or other aid under chapters 30, 31, 32, 33, 35, 1606, or 1607. Students receiving assistance under these chapters are entitled to receive information concerning:

• The estimated total cost of the course of study (tuition, fees, books, supplies, other additional costs)
• The estimated living expenses such as room, board, meal plans, etc.
• The amount of costs expected to be covered under Chapters 30, 31, 32, 33, 35, 1606, or 1607
• The amount of costs expected to be covered by financial aid such as grants, scholarships, etc.
• The amount of costs expected to be covered out-of-pocket or through student loans
• An estimated amount of student loan debt upon graduation
• Information regarding graduation rates
• Job-placement rates (if available)
• The school’s transfer credit policy
• Conditions/additional requirements the student would need to complete to obtain any program-specific licensure/certification
