Services
The Middle Georgia State University (MGA) Archives & Special Collections provides the following services to members of the Middle Georgia community. The archive collections do not circulate outside of their respective library locations. To ensure the protection and preservation of the materials please follow all posted archival use guidelines.
Digitization Requests
To follow our mission to make available select Middle Georgia State University records of historical value, digitization services are available. Content from published books will only be reproduced if, once reviewed by the Archivist and Collections Librarian, it is agreed that a duplicate is necessary and will not violate copyright law nor cause harm to the item during the digitization process.
A Basic Scan request is made when copies of archival materials are needed for personal research use only. Dependent on the materials being copied, a compressed (lower quality) file may be needed to accurately transmit via email.
A High Quality Scan request is made for exhibits, publications, videos, displays, and other uses. High quality means above 600 dpi and full color; unless the record is monochrome. These scans are contingent on the researcher securing copyright permissions if Middle Georgia State University is not the owner.
Publication
Researchers wishing to publish special collections and archival materials agree to obtain permission from copyright holders, if not Middle Georgia State University, and from other interested parties as applicable. Due to the nature of archival materials, the researcher also agrees to accept responsibility for complying with legislation enacted to protect the creator's right to privacy. If you are publishing the item(s) requested (i.e. book, journal, public display, etc.), a formal agreement may be required prior to content delivery.

Distance Research
Researchers who are unable to visit the archive in person may schedule a virtual appointment with the Archivist to assess their needs. If specific research is required, the Archivist may perform the tasks as set by the researcher within reason. Any digitization that is necessary for the research to be completed is subject to the nature of the materials, the Archivist's available time, and equipment needed for such digitization.
