The University System of Georgia (USG) provides MGA employee benefits that offer protection, peace of mind, and comfort-and want you to make the most of them. Our comprehensive benefits package is designed to support your personal health, well-being, and retirement needs. The benefits package includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, and more.
Eligibility
Regular employees working 30 hours or more per week and full-time faculty are eligible to enroll in the USG healthcare and/or voluntary benefit plans. Newly eligible employees have 30 days from their effective date of hire to select benefit options through the OneUSG Connect portal.

USG Benefits Resources

Retirement Benefits
All employees working 20 hours or more per week, are required to participate in one of the USG mandatory retirement plans: Teachers Retirement System of Georgia (TRS) Plan or Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). In addition, the USG offers voluntary supplemental retirement saving plans. For detailed information on the retirement and voluntary supplemental plans, please visit the USG Retirement website.
Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
The University System of Georgia has established an educational assistance program, the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), for the purpose of fostering the professional growth and development of its employees. The tuition assistance program is available to full-time benefits-eligible employees of the USG who have successfully completed at least six (6) months of employment in a benefits-eligible position, as of the date of the TAP application deadline for the desired academic semester.

Workers’ Compensation
Middle Georgia State University (MGA) provides Workers’ Compensation coverage for all employees in accordance with regulations issued by the Georgia Department of Administrative Services (DOAS). This coverage applies to employees working on any MGA campus and those conducting official university business off-site on behalf of the University System of Georgia (USG) and MGA. All employees are required to promptly report any work-related injury, accident, exposure, or illness to their immediate supervisor. If medical treatment is necessary or if the incident results in lost work time, the employee’s supervisor must immediately notify the Office of Human Resources. Human Resources will coordinate with DOAS and AmeriSys, Inc. to assist in selecting an Authorized Treating Physician.
