Withdrawal FAQs
How do I receive a refund for withdrawing?
The student must completely withdraw from ALL classes for the semester in order to receive a percentage refund after the Drop/Add period ends [University System of Georgia Policy].
How do I withdraw from a class or classes?
You may initiate a change (add or withdraw) to your course schedule on-line through the Student Web Organized Records and Data System (SWORDS) depending on the time-frame involved. This option does not apply to students who have registration HOLDS, such as for Learning Support Advisement, new students prevented from Web Registration, immunizations, transcripts, etc. Information concerning how to withdraw on-line is available at the Registrar's Office and the WRC. Students who withdraw on-line through SWORDS or by submitting a Withdrawal Form to the Registrar at the Macon campus or the administrative offices at other campuses should print a copy of the screen confirming the withdrawal for their records. On-line withdrawals are ultimately the responsibility of the students who use this service. Students may withdraw from class or the College at the Registrar's counter in the Student Life Building (S-173), or at the administrative offices located at one of the other four campuses. In extenuating circumstances, you may download the Drop form from the Registrar's Web site and either mail or fax it to the address/FAX number noted below. You should note the circumstances on the form for our records. We recommend you call or e-mail us to ensure we have received your mail or fax request and confirm that it was processed. If you encounter any difficulties in withdrawing because of a special situation, you may e-mail (dian.mitchell@mga.edu) the Registrar for assistance. Office of the Registrar, Middle Georgia State, 100 University Pkwy, Macon, GA 31026. Fax 478.757.2621. Once students reach the 5 course limit, all subsequent withdrawals will be assigned grades of WF. Withdraw limit counts start effective Fall 2016, when the policy was implement and only pertain to MGA course work. Please refer to the online catalog for the complete Middle Georgia State withdrawal policy.
I need to medically withdraw from a class or classes?
If we are still in the Withdrawal period, student needs follow normal withdrawal procedures. The request will be processed using the submission date for the course withdrawal. If after the Withdrawal period, Documentation substantiating the reason for the request must be submitted along with a Withdrawal Request Form. Examples of documentation: physician statement and signature on office letterhead; occupational documents; copy of obituary, with proof of relationship to deceased; etc. Partial withdrawal is not an option. If a hardship or medical withdrawal is granted, the student will be withdrawn from all classes in which he/she is enrolled and will receive a grade of "W" for each class. Request and documentation must be submitted within the semester of withdrawal prior to posting of grades for the semester/session, and the student must be passing all courses at time of withdrawal.
What is the difference between dropping a course and withdrawing from a course?
Dropping a course before the end of the Drop Add period will refund the student the tuition for the course if already paid. However, withdrawing from a course occurs after Drop Add and the student will receive a W (or WF if after the Withdrawal period) and is obligated to pay for the course AS WELL AS not receive a refund if other courses exist for the term.
