In past years, we’ve averaged 20 to 25 students per class, though we welcome up to a maximum of 30. Respiratory Therapy classes are traditionally small, allowing for more personalized support and a close-knit community. To move forward in the program, students must earn a grade of “C” or better in each course.

Yes, the Respiratory Entrance Exam is part of the application process. Don’t worry—we offer a free practice test to help you prepare. If your official score isn’t available yet, a strong practice score can still be reviewed during the admissions process.

Summer semester. Acceptance into the BSRT entry program is competitive and based on a review of everything you submit, including your GPA and Respiratory Entrance Exam (REE) scores. Decisions for Fall are typically released in the Summer semester. If you have questions or special circumstances, please call us at 478.471.2783—we’re happy to help!

Early Acceptance Option
Applicants who meet all admission requirements and earn a spot in the program may be offered early acceptance before the standard notification date. If selected, students will be contacted directly and asked to provide verbal confirmation to secure their place in the incoming class.

First, apply to Middle Georgia State University and have all your transcripts sent to the Registrar’s Office. After that, meet with a Respiratory Therapy faculty advisor to make sure you’re on track with the right prerequisites. They’ll guide you and let you know when you’re ready to apply to the Respiratory Therapy program.

Once you apply and are accepted to Middle Georgia State University, you’ll need to complete a separate application for the Respiratory Therapy program. Only students who are accepted into the program can take Respiratory Therapy courses. You’ll be part of a cohort, which means you’ll start the program with a group of classmates and take all your RT classes together in a set sequence. This structured schedule helps you build skills step by step and stay on track toward graduation.

A detailed list of expenses will be provided after acceptance. While there are some upfront costs in the program, not all expenses are due at once—some will occur throughout the semester and as you progress through the program. Many of these costs cover essential resources, hospital access, and advanced certifications that support your training.

Yes, but it can become challenging as the program progresses. Classroom sessions are held on Mondays and Wednesdays. Clinical rotations begin in the second half of the first semester and take place every Tuesday and Thursday with some Fridays required as well, for the remainder of the program. Many students with flexible jobs have succeeded, but it requires dedication, commitment, and some sacrifices.

Yes! MGREAT stands for Middle Georgia Respiratory Education Action Team. This student club is dedicated to promoting the field of respiratory therapy and supporting pulmonary health within the community. Through fundraising efforts, MGREAT members engage in community outreach and participate in state and national respiratory therapy conferences and seminars.

Great news! Middle Georgia State University’s Respiratory Therapy program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC)—which means you're choosing a program that meets national standards and sets you up for success. Even better, MGA has a 98% pass rate on credentialing exams, giving you a strong start in your respiratory therapy career with a degree employers and licensing boards trust!

After graduation, you’ll take the Therapist Multiple Choice (TMC) exam, which is the main credentialing exam for respiratory therapists. Passing this exam earns you a credential, Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). To practice in Georgia, you must apply for a state license through the Composite State Board of Medical Examiners.

After being accepted to Middle Georgia State University, you must submit a separate application for the Respiratory Therapy program. Only students accepted into the program can take RT courses.
